There’s a persistent pattern: left to standard profit-maximizing incentives, corporations keep landing on the wrong side of history. Why?
There are five reasons:
- Controlled stability: Authoritarian regimes provide predictable business environments free from democratic messiness.
- Labor suppression: Dictatorships crush unions and worker protections that might cut into profits.
- Influence capture: Authoritarian states offer more direct avenues for businesses to shape policies to their own ends.
- Desperate times: Corporations ally with authoritarians when threatened by more radical alternatives – socialism, etc.
- Unlimited value extraction: Without the limitations of a system that protects its people, corporations are free to extract value without being concerned with long-term harm or regulations.“
Lesenswerter Blog-Beitrag von Joan Westenberg. Man muss dabei nicht voll ihrer Meinung sein, aber es lohnt sich m. E. sehr einmal ihren Argumenten zu folgen.
Letztendlich liegt es wie immer am Leser, ob er es überzeugend findet oder nicht.
Man könnte nun auch einmal schauen, wie sich unsere eigenen Großkonzerne in Deutschland vor, während und nach dem Dritten Reich verhielten. Und vor allem darauf, wen sie so alles heute mit unterstützen. Wie bereits von mir erwähnt, Reinhold Würth dürfte dabei eine sehr rühmliche Ausnahme sein.
